TAO Translator v1.3.4

Printer-friendly versionPDF version

A new version of TAO Translator was released today. While BlackBerry 10 and Sailfish OS versions are awaiting approval in their corresponding app stores (usually takes up to several days), Nokia N9 and Symbian users can already download it.

The main reason for v1.3.4 was Microsoft’s plans to shutdown DataMarket API on 20.04.2017. TAO Translator now uses Azure Cognitive Services API. Also, some UI localizations were updated.

Stop! But where’s version 1.3.2, you might ask? Well, it was released on 31st of July (on 3rd of August for BlackBerry 10), however I managed to forget to announce it on my website. Here’s a ChangeLog from that version:

  • Source and target translation languages were updated for all services.
  • Add root CA certificates for Google Translate and Microsoft Translator services to avoid SSL handshake errors due to untrusted root certificate on Symbian and, potentially, Nokia N9 platforms.
  • A slight rearrangement of menus on Sailfish OS, Nokia N9, and Symbian.
  • BlackBerry 10: Bring back compatibility with OS versions below 10.3.

For more technical details, feel free to check out the changes between versions 1.3.3 and 1.3.4, as well as between 1.3.2 and 1.3.3, on GitHub.
